There’s nothing very funny about Christmas, which can be deadly serious, or just deadly. Here are a few funnies to cheer up those who need cheering up. My thanks to commenters, those who write to me privately, and those who just read. Oh, my thanks also to those who created the cartoons, and those who passed them on to me!

Merry Xmas Don.
Hope 2020 is a happy and healthy one for you.
I continue to enjoy your Posts and look foreword to those arriving in the new year!
Thank you Don, and I wish you, your wife, and your extended families a very happy Christmas and good health for the new year. It really is a nice time of the year catching up with family and good friends. Enjoy!
Don I hope you and your family have an enjoyable Christmas and let’s hope for an even better New Year in 2020.
We need to see a break in this drought, so l’m hoping for a la nina soon and perhaps a negative IOD later in 2020.
All the best to everyone and drive safely.
Merry Christmas Don
Merry Christmas to you, Peter, and all the best with the New Year.
Just think, Don, in a week’s time us OBEs will have lived in every decade.
Which one was the best so far?
I reckon the ’50s followed by the ’60s. In spite of the world’s overall improvements.
Thanks for all you do promoting common sense and rationality.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Yes, mainly because we were young, and we could understand the lyrics of our hits.
Happy Xmas, Don and posters, health, happiness and prosperity in the coming year, no matter what Greta says!
Best wishes for today (belaredly) and for the year ahead. May there be many more for you.
Merry Christmas Don & family.
Keep up the great work, we need your efforts. What you are doing today is perhaps the most important thing you have ever done.
Merry Christmas Mr Aitkin. Thank you for your rational calm and factual essays.
Merry Christmas and happy new year all the readers.
Don, Dr Rosling’s video study of 1810 to 2009 now fits neatly at the start of Matt Ridley’s latest decade of data.
What a pity that very few people understand any of the incredible advances over the last 210 years, or even the last decade as shown by Ridley.
I’ve had people swear at me and get very hostile as they cling to their BS and con tricks, just because I tell them “to look up the data”.
Their fantasy is well embedded in their tiny minds and some have even yapped about how much China etc are doing for the environment. Fair dinkum you couldn’t make this stuff up.
IOW they really BELIEVE that the last 210 years have been a disaster for the global environment.
Matt Ridley’s junk science BUSTED
Has Rosling ever produced a timeline based on growth in GHGs – I think not.
And a happy new year to you also Chris!
Or is that Grinch?
Thanks Don for keeping it up, ND ll the best for the coming year.
No proof read!
I fear Merry Xmas’s will become rarer and rarer in the future given the current warming/ GHG trends.
You don’t need a fancy model to see where all this this is going;
We can add in a few extra decade now.
Poor ol’ blith thinks that is empirical science. Oh dear!
How does that measure up against the known warmth of higher sea levels and higher tree lines?
Try 350 peer reviewed papers to the contrary:
When historians look back at our time, it won’t be the delusions of impending eco-doom which define us, it will be the mind boggling waste, the cash expenditures authorized by politicians and senior executives who knew upfront what they were buying would not work, but paid the money anyway.
Just checking Ridley’s claims using only the best data. Here is global wealth up to 2017, up by 27%.
Global wealth https://www.credit-suisse.com/about-us-news/en/articles/media-releases/global-wealth-27–higher-than-a-decade-ago–led-by-further-us-ga-201711.html
Extreme poverty last 10 years. Could extreme poverty vanish around the world by 2030? There seems a good chance this may be the case.
Number of child deaths from 2010 to 2017. 1.57 mil less deaths in 2017.
World life expectancy since 2000 see graph here down page and about 71 + years by 2015.
Willis has another interesting post at WUWT and looks again at some of the recent projections about the future.
Some of these have been complete failures and have been found to be wrong in a very short time.
But he does look at the Greenland temp again over the last 12,000 years and finds no correlation with increased co2 emissions.
In fact co2 has been rising for the past 7,000 years while temp has been falling over that time.
See Vinther et al study linked at the post and the last Holocene graph showing co2 and temperature.
Mr Ridleys article was great. Nuclear fusion ( please correct me) how long do you think it will take to turn sea water to fresh water cheaply and green the interior of our continent.
John the old joke about nuclear fusion is that it is always “just 30 years away”.
But I’m sure we’ll get there one day and the UK scientists seem to be the most advanced at this point in time.
But when it does arrive it will be the closest thing to a miracle that any of us could imagine.
All that safe energy at very low cost and food production, transport, cheap electrification etc for poor countries will be a reality for the first time in human history.
Even so I still think that the fact that the USS Ronald Reagan doesn’t need to be re-fueled for 20 years is close to my idea of a miracle today.
And that power plant is capable of servicing a city of 100,000 people, so it is still very impressive. And the area it would take up + staff facilities etc could easily be contained in a just a few acres of ground.
What chance a Happy New Year????
Happening already, blith.
The solution is what’s known as weather change.
It’s already happened here and I have unpacked my emergency escape kit and taken down my synthetic rainfall mechanism.
The grass is green and needs mowing already.
I think Chris is just phoning it in now.
Standard formula: start with a snide comment, often about deniers/denialists, then a link to an alarmist website, then off to drink a cup of hot smug.
It’s your Green ideology that is preventing any Happy New Year, blith:
More bias and preaching plus eco madness from the extremists at the hopeless BBC.
Fossil fuel use continues to boom in India and they should be thankful they have such a strong man in PM Modi leading their country.
I just wish we too could get on with building new coal fired stns in Australia instead of relying on unreliable idiocy like solar and wind.
Modi and his successors will rue the day they shafted action to prevent climate catastrophe.
Low lying areas of India are particularly at risk;
Once ice starts to melt, it does not stop unless the heat disappears. This means that all land ice will melt.
Denialists be damned.
That’s the way, blith.
When you haven’t got a clue you just keep moving the goal posts:
Some climate related death rates to cheer you up for the New Year, blith
“Once ice starts to melt, it does not stop unless the heat disappears. This means that all land ice will melt.”
You keep repeating this about land ice, but never answer the obvious question: “How long will it take for all the land ice to melt?”
I saw an estimate from one of the many alarmists recently, that melting ice could raise sea levels by 33 metres in – wait for it – 10,000 years!! Having concerns about events that far into the unimaginable future is a sign of obsession, not rationality.
So, what is your estimate?
“Modi and his successors will rue the day they shafted action to prevent climate catastrophe.”
Good to see that you are finally getting the message that mitigation is far beyond Australia’s capability, given the policies of other nations. Now develop some awareness of the impact of China on worldwide Co2 levels.
Once you have done that, then if you both believe that increasing CO2 levels will have a catastrophic impact, and are even halfway rational, you will accept that adaptation is the sensible course.
This leads to the requirenent for reliable, continuous, elecricity supplies, increased water storage, and preparation of defences against possible rising sea levels.
Even if you are wrong about CAGW, the electricity generation and water storage will not be wasted, unlike the money currently being spent on grid scale solar and wind power.
When alarmists can move the goal posts as far and as quickly as this and still claim they are spouting “science”, it takes some keeping up with:
Dr. Stephen Schneider in 1988 wrestled with “groping to find the balance between being effective and being honest”. At that time, Dr. Schneider was a relatively fresh convert to global warming alarmism. A decade earlier, he made an appearance in a 1978 television program worrying about (can you guess?), global cooling.
SD here is a clever Schneider VERSUS Schneider short video. Young S + afro and older S, gotta love it.
I watched him on SBS TV shortly before his death but he was not a well man and he seemed very irrational to me, but he was certainly full bore on their CAGW.
Just for those who need medication over the New Year…
I see our irrational donkey is still getting his info and delusional garbage from their ABC.
I would never have believed it, Greta and their ABC, what a team, SARC.
Defenitely just phoning it in!
Everybody panic, because the end of the world could be upon us in 2020.
There will be gnashing of teeth and howls of misery and even poor Greta etc will be very afraid.
Or so said a report to President Bush in 2004. You gotta love these extremists and loonies, they never do things by halves.
I have a grandson about the same age as Greta and he has Asperger’s too. His father [my son] is a very experienced doctor and he gets the best of treatment but he is still intellectually out of control most of the time. If people had any personal experience with similar-problemed teenagers they wouldn’t be genuflecting at their pronouncements like all the alarmists do with poor little Greta.
Our blith’s attitude is classic religious, true-believer worship.
Something for blith to get involved in over the hols, if he’s not already:
The fakery is not just in the bakery.
It’s in the ice-box too:
